The commander of the Somali National Army’s (SNA) ground forces has officially seen off a contingent of troops set to join a sweeping anti-terror offensive across multiple regions, reinforcing the government’s push to eliminate insurgent threats.
In a brief ceremony at a military base on the outskirts of the capital, the senior commander urged the departing soldiers to maintain discipline and professionalism while rooting out extremist cells that continue to target civilians and security forces. He emphasized that the operation, which will cover several frontline areas, aims to secure key supply routes and liberate towns from persistent militant attacks.
“This is a decisive moment in our collective effort to restore lasting peace,” the commander told the troops. “You carry the hopes of the Somali people, and your success will pave the way for stability and reconstruction.”
The deployment comes as part of a larger nationwide strategy coordinated with regional forces and international partners, focusing on both offensive ground maneuvers and securing recently recovered territories. Military sources indicate that the fresh units will reinforce areas where al-Shabaab and other armed groups have attempted to regroup following previous operations.
Residents in parts of central and southern Somalia have reported increased military movements in recent days, raising expectations of sustained pressure on militant hideouts.
